TetraZap Adapted Universal Remote Control

TetraZap adapted Universal Remote Control mounted on the M04 Articulated Arm.The TetraZap is a Universal Remote Control that has been adapted to a TetraMouse style control box. The TetraZap is great for everyday TV watching and allows easy control of channel and volume. The TetraZap can turn on and off up to three devices including your television, a cable or satellite receiver box, a VCR, a DVD, a PVR or DVR. The TetraZap must be programmed (just like any universal remote) to operate with your TV and associated devices. An instruction manual is provided for the adapted remote so a helper can program it.

In addition to the functions allowed by the joystick adaptation, the adapted universal remote control remains fully functional for ordinary use using its keypad. Just like the TetraMouse, the TetraZap has two joysticks. The left joystick selects one of three devices to act on and also turns the devices on and off. The right joystick controls the TV volume and selects the channel of the device selected (if it has a tuner, such as a TV, cable box, satellite box or other device with a built-in tuner). The adapted remote may be programmed to utilize its "master power macro" function to turn all three programmed devices on or off at once by simply holding the left joystick in the "up" position about one second.

The TetraZap requires two "AAA" batteries (included) and a mounting system. The TetraZap mounts in exactly the same way as a TetraMouse. A 1/4" x 20 threaded stud protrudes from the back of the TetraZap (same as the TetraMouse). The M04 Articulated Arm (not included) may be used to mount the TetraZap.

In a typical set up with a TV, cable or satellite box and a DVD or VCR player here is what you can do:

> Turn on or off up to three devices at once by holding the left joystick up for one second (with Master Power Macro function programmed).

> Select one of up to three devices to turn on or off individually with a short "up" push on the left joystick.

TetraZap left joystick equivalent button functions:
Push left joystick to the left to select the DVD/VCR selection remote button function.
Push left joystick to the right to select the TV selection remote button function.
Push left joystick to the down to select the CBL/SAT selection remote button function.

> Select one of up to three devices to change channels.
Push the right joystick up or down to change channels up or down on the selected device.

> Control the TV volume level.
Push the right joystick right or left to adjust the volume up or down. (Changing the volume setting will also usually bring the TV out of a muted state.)

> Turn on and off up to three devices at once by holding the left joystick up for one second. This requires that the remote be programmed to use the Master Power Macro. The Master Power Macro can also program the order in which the devices will turn on and off. Instructions for programming are in the Universal Remote Control manual (included).

Please note that the above listed functions are the only functions available for control using the joysticks. You can, for example, turn on and off a VCR or DVD but there are no controls for playing a tape or disc except by using the remote's keypad. All the original keypad functions remain available for use by a helper or caregiver.

The CBL/SAT device control in the adapted remote may be programmed to operate a device other than a cable or satellite box if desired, for example, if you want to control a TV, VCR and DVD, the CBL/SAT control can be programmed to control the DVD and the DVD/VCR control can be programmed to operate the VCR.
