The difference between the TM08 and other TetraMouse models is the analog-type joystick. In models TM05, TM06 and TM07 the pointer may be moved in any of eight directions; up, down, left, right and the four diagonal directions in between. With the TM08, pointer movement is more direct due to the analog joystick sensors. This allows the pointer to be moved in any direction and the speed can be controlled by how far the joystick is pushed in the direction of pointer movement.

The TetraMouse model TM08 allows the user to select 3, 5 or 8-button operation modes. In the 3 or 5-button modes, an additional function allows the middle (or "third") button function to be held, if desired, by utilizing the joystick movement that is assigned to button 7 when in 8-button mode, giving the user the ability to click and hold the middle mouse button as well as the normal left and right click and hold functions.
